How to use the HAY cards to reflect on an experience/activity
SKILLS/EXAMPLES
During self-reflection, it is important to be thoughtful to explore the big picture and interconnections. To make the process easier, we can be tender and empathic to understand diverse perspectives. And to start off the process, be slowed-down and self-loving to check in with yourself.
Look at the 11 Emotion Awareness Cards and notice your body or state.
Step 1: Identify the card(s) that best describe(s) how you may be feeling before/during/after the experience.
Step 2: Explore your emotions more clearly.
Look at the respective Graph Card(s) of the identified feeling(s). Is your body active or passive? Is how you may be feeling based on internal or external references?
Look at the respective Feeling Cards of the identified feeling(s). Can you relate to any of the description better?
Look at the 17 Thought Awareness Cards and notice your thinking pattern.
Step 6: Identify the card(s) that best describe(s) the thought(s) which might have led to the identified feeling(s) or need(s).
Step 7: Look at the respective Thinking Cards(s) of the identified thought(s) and answer 2-3 questions to expand your perspective. (Try your best to make a guess even if the question is difficult. There is no right answer. Just be honest with yourself.)
Step 8: After sharing/realising all these, what do you notice about yourself or what is an insight you gained?
Step 9: Look that the Life Situations Card. Moving forward, how and in which situation can you apply what you learnt? What emotion/behaviour/thinking pattern you want to have more of?
Step 3: Look at the back of the identified Feeling Card(s), answer 1-2 questions to understand your feeling deeper.
Look at the 6 Need Awareness Cards and notice your actions or state.
Step 4: Identify the card(s) that best describe(s) what are you doing or your need.
Step 5: Is your need met or unmet?
If it is unmet, what is the relationship between the unmet need(s) and identified feeling(s)? Look at the respective Action Card(s) of the unmet need(s) and answer 2-3 questions to explore possible actions to fulfil the unmet need(s).
If it is met, how does it describe/drive the way you behaved before/during/after the experience?
